The Story of a Room: The Initial Consult

It's back!! I have another great before and after story to share with all of you this week.  You can read past room series here and here.

As I stated in the original series, every project I do is so vastly different that it's hard to pinpoint an exact science or equation that I use every time. So I love giving readers a peek into how a room actually comes together. The start to the finish and everything in between.
This week I am excited to share that process with you through this week long series, The Story of a Room. Each day I'll take you through a part of the process. Today we are starting with the initial consult and by Friday you'll get to see the finished room!

This is a fun project to share because it's one Erin and I did together. We visited the cutest client of all time right before Christmas.  She had just bought her first house and needed help with her Living Room, Office and Entryway.  Here is what the Living Room looked like when we came out.

This room had great bones to work with.  She had already purchased a beautiful sofa and a great rug.  But she struggled with a few areas.

The first one was this awkward nook.  It was hard to put any seating there because it felt separated from the room too much. Erin suggested putting a table in the nook with storage for toys.

We also had this t.v. wall to think about.  Our client mentioned that she wanted two chairs on either side of a new t.v. credenza and we thought that was a great plan. After chatting with her these were our assignments for the Living Room:

- two chairs
- coffee table with rounded edges so it was safe for her kids
- a table for the nook
- t.v. credneza
- new pillows
- roman shades
- new accessories
- side table
- floor lamp

Moving onto the office.

This room is right off the entryway and it literally had nothing! So we had to really had to build a room from scratch.

We talked about doing a desk floating in the middle, two chairs by the windows and shelving behind the desk. So here is what we needed for the office:

- rug
- desk
-desk chair
- art
- shelves
- coat rack
- chairs
- side table

The last space our client needed help with was the entryway.

Uhhh... don't mind me in this pic.

We didn't have room for a huge entryway table due to the french doors opening and taking up wall space.

Here is what we discussed needing for the entryway:
- rug
- light fixture
-table
-art

After the initial consult we spent some time browsing her Pinterest boards to get some inspiration for her style.  Here are a few of the images she pinned....

Stay tuned tomorrow for the design plan we came up with for the Living Room!
